Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX

Final Fantasy IX

The last installment of the Final Fantasy series on Playstation reached stores nationwide in a very low-key manner. The anticipation and exhilaration that associate with the release of Final Fantasy games have obviously lessened. I uncharacteristically DID NOT pick up the new game on the first day it released. Honestly, I was not too excited about the release of this game due to 3 major reasons: 1) Square's quality of work has been questionable these recent years, 2) relatively short period of time has passed since we have seen FF8, 3) the Final Fantasy series has been evolving so much that I was not sure I would still get the same thrill I got when I played FF IV on SNES.

I was not a bit disappointed.

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution

Civilization Revolution is a strategy game in which you take charge of a historical civilization and lead them from humble beginnings to world domination. Before the game begins, you must make an important choice: Which of the 16 civilizations will you command. Each has a starting bonus and four era bonuses that you'll gain as you progress through the ages, bonuses that will aid you in some way on your path to victory. There are four types of victory in Civilization Revolution: cultural, economic, technology, and domination. Trying each of the different civilizations is a lot of fun and makes every game very unique and challenging. The graphics are excellent and this game supports full 1080p for the best resolution. I could play this game for a week straight and not get tired of it because there every game is different and there are so many choices to make. If you like a game where you really have to think and make intelligent choices then look no further. This is by far one of the best Playstation 3 games that have been released so far. I have uploaded some additional screen shots of this game to give you a better idea what it is like.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Wow. Trying to give Gran Turismo 5: Prologue a complete review is like trying to count the grains of sand on the beach in Ashikita, but I'll do my best.

Whether you are a new player of Gran Turismo or a long-time fan like myself, the only place to truly start is choosing the Gran Turismo TV option and watch the video "Beyond The Apex". I watched this video at least 4 times before I even started playing the game.

We get to meet Kazunori Yamauchi, Gran Turismo's creator. This man loved cars by age 8, and his love has developed into a lifelong dream of providing video gamers the perfect balance between car beauty, and car functionality.

Batman: Arkham Asylum

 Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Video games haven't been too kind to Batman. Often times when we think of a Batman game, the first thing that comes to mind is that the game just isn't going to be all that spectacular. What is it about the Batman that hasn't always worked in the past? It's hard to point out. What we can point out, however, is that Batman Arkham Asylum doesn't fall into that category. In fact, it is easily one of the best Batman games to be released. From its humble beginnings, the game is fine tuned video game that does most of what it does incredibly well.

Let's begin with the production values. This is by far one of Arkham Asylum's strong points. The game begins with the Joker being caught and taken to Arkham Asylum, but he seems to be pretty non-chalant about it, and Batman doesn't like that one bit. And it turns out he was right to be suspicious. The Joker springs a trap and Batman is caught in the middle. Now he's trapped inside the Asylum with the Joker controlling things, as well as several other adversaries.

Tom Clancy's HAWX

Tom Clancy's HAWX

 Tom Clancy's HAWX

I have been waiting for a long time for someone to put together a great flight sim utilizing the latest technology. I have a 46" HD flat panel and a ps3 and I could not find a good flight sim. It drove me crazy. I tried renting a few that were out, but I didn't find anything that couldn't have been run on a ps2. HAWX is exactly what I wanted.

The graphics are just amazing. I don't know how many other people get flight sims almost solely for the purpose of flying around amazing looking terrain as low as possible. That's me though. This game is just right for that purpose.

Halo 3

Halo 3

Halo 3

Halo 3 was, in a way, doomed before it was released. No matter how well it did, people are going to judge its "wow factor" against how amazing the original Halo felt to play back when it first came out. Now that we are used to the weapons, races, environments and plotline, nothing is as cool as it was that first time. It's the same issue that plagues any series, be it Dune, the Matrix, Star Wars, etc.

Halo 3 does get a boost in that it is released for the 360, so you get an automatic upgrade in abilities there. We're playing on a high end HD TV, and yes, it looks really nice. The backgrounds look like a painting in motion, with swirling clouds and dancing dust storms. From the light glinting off the metal surfaces to the detailed shadows in the rocks, it can be really gorgeous. Is every detail as beautiful as every detail in, say Gears of War? Maybe not. Different developers focus on different items. There are always trade-offs for speed and visual appeal reasons. For a Halo world, I think they did a good job.

Xbox 360 Over Ear Headset

Xbox 360 Over Ear Headset

Xbox 360 Over Ear Headset

After the "official" microsoft headset broke, I looked at lots of different headsets to replace it. This is a great alternative to the other one, and it's the same price! Though it has a similar design style at first glance, this headset is larger and wider than the Microsoft one, and doesn't dig into your head. It fits comfortably, and sometimes I don't even know it's there. Plus, I have not heard any complaints online about the microphone, so I assume it is adequate. Overall, a great product at a great price.
